Prof. Lientz, Where are you?
Advanced IT Project Management training ini di-selenggarakan oleh marcusevans KL, berlangsung selama 3 hari di hotel Shangri-la, Jakarta.
Sebelum nya aku sudah menyiapkan beberapa pertanyaan yang akan diajukan ke pada trainer nya: Prof.Dr. Bennet Lientz.
Hari pertama datang, kelihatan panitia tidak siap, Hardcopy materi sama sekali tidak ada, hanya ada 2 orang petugas pendaftaran. Jumlah peserta ada sekitar 30 orang..
Prof.Lientz membuka training dengan permintaan maaf untuk 2 hal: Hardcopy materi yang tidak tersedia dan Beliau sedang influenza.. sniff..sniff
Training dimulai.. Sudah terbayang akan ada sesuatu yang… Excellent…Spektakuler dan sebangsanya, mengingat nilai investasi (istilah penyelenggara) yang cukup aduhai.. dan resume Sang Professor yang ‘internationally recognized’….
ternyata Prof. hanya duduk di mejanya, buka laptop, buka microsoft word yang masih blank dan sambil berbicara, tangan nya sambil mengetik di laptop..
Berikut sedikit cuplikannya..
IT projects are different
o People are split between projects and non project work
o Best people in IT—bad idea—average people with energy and initiative
o Most knowledgeable users–> king and queen bees- informal power through business knowledge; undermine project—junior users who know how common work is performed and who want to get ahead
o Processes deteriorate over time- more exceptions; shadow systems (user developed system); new people are not trained in the processes
o Traditional—one person gets one person; focus on collaboration and teamwork—two people per task with one in charge- 1) backup; 2) shared knowledge; 3) wider views; 4) early warning to issues
o A task has risk if it has one or more significant issues (issues are why there is risk)

Project selection and justification-ROI, internal rate of return- not credible, no one measures if it is true
· Need better way of evaluating work and projects
· Need to think of the negative side-WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DO NOT DO THE PROJECT?
Salah satu peserta sudah tak tahan, langsung mengangkat jari.. ‘Yes ?’
“In our projects, we experienced that User change the requirements frequently, while we’re already in development phase and prototype had been signed off..
my question is how to manage the change of requirements in this case?”
Dan beliau pun menjelaskan dan menulis point-point nya di laptop lagi…
Change of requirements
· What do you want?
· What are the benefits?
· What if you do not get it?
· What if it is deferred for some time?
· How do we validate the benefits?
· What are they willing to do to support the effort?
· Why did not we hear about this before?
· What else is there?
Break makan siang, wah pokoknya makan enak deh di Satoo.. dan ujung-ujungnya biasa.. promosi buku sang Prof.
Sampai hari ketiga, aku tidak menemukan sesuatu yang menarik dari training ini..
Semua nya hanya teori-teori umum yang sudah pernah dibaca dan cara sang Prof. membawakan training juga sangat menjemukan.. kenapa ya?
Kemudian peserta diminta membawa memory stick untuk dicopy kan file yang baru selesai diketiknya.
‘If you have any question, please e-mail me..’ katanya pada saat training berakhir..
Beberapa minggu setelah training, sambil review kembali, aku e-mail beberapa pertanyaan ke beliau..
ditunggu-tunggu tidak ada reply… e-mail lagi… sampai hari masih tidak ada reply.. he..he..
Oh Professor dimanakah kau berada?
